Books I Read in 2020

I read more books this year than I have in a long time due to my Daughter introducing me to the library app. That does mean that quite a lot of the books have been audiobooks that I listened to while driving to and from work, but still!
JANUARY
Finished another audiobook! Although Marie Kondo has different religious beliefs than I do, there is so much to glean from her special methods on "Tidying Up." It's quite different than any book (besides the other book she wrote) that I have read on the subject of cleaning, organizing, or decluttering. I started using her method last year on my clothes, after watching the Netflix series. It really works! But I was a overwhelmed by the size of my belongings and my home (although it is modest by today's standards-*unless you are a tiny house dweller*). I decided to treat my upstairs ranch style as one house and the full basement as another house. The only problem with that has been that I do use the basement on a daily basis. But I am pressing on to get my "2nd" house Tidy, too.

Another book read!  I picked this one up because it was available while I was waiting on some other books.  It was a little slow to start, but very inspiring and lots of good Bible references.   I also enjoyed how Max Lucado takes Bible stories in this and turns them into a modern version to give the reader a feel for what was going on, possible in a more relatable way.  I am glad I was waiting on the other books and came across this one.

Re-read Kind is the New Classy by Candace Cameron Bure.  This is one of those books that I want to read again as soon as I finish it.  The whole time that I am reading it, I find new gems of wisdom and encouragement.  Candace writes with a Biblical worldview, and backs up her advice with Bible references.  She mixes life stories that are both interesting and relatable, even thought she's lived the celebrity life since she was a young girl.  I think anyone could enjoy and learned from Kind is the New Classy.  I still cried and smiled and had my own running soundtrack as I went through this book again.  I understand the draw of audiobooks now, because it is so nice to "read" a book while I am driving and doing chores around the house.  I especially enjoy listening to Candace read her own books, both because she has a nice voice to listen to and especially because she knows exactly where she intended emphasis and it adds an whole other level to the life stories she shares in her books.

I finished reading Kisses From Katie, by Katie Davis (now Majors), founder of Amazima Ministiries in Uganda.  My Daughter read this book years ago now, and I have wanted to read it ever since.  The author has now written a second book (which my Daughter has also read), and gotten married (which is why she is Katie Majors now, not Katie Davis).

I don't know why I never read this before.  Such a beautiful Dutch woman and an incredible family of Christ followers, who showed the fruit of their relationship with the Lord to all the people around them, in every circumstance: who followed the teachings of the Bible and shared the good news of life and freedom in both good times and incredibly hard times. Corrie's sister, Betsie, even thanked God for fleas... when Corrie couldn't imagine any reason to be thankful for such a wretched infestation, but the fleas turned out to be something to be thankful for!  So many lessons to learn from the ten Boom family before, during and after World War II.  If you haven't read this book, you should.

FEBRUARY

Finished audiobooks Financial Peace and The Total Money Makeover this month.  I enjoyed listening to the Total Money Makeover more, because it was read by the author, Dave Ramsey.  Financial Peace Revisited was not read by DAve, and I had to speed up the audio or I would have quit listening.  Both books are full of lots of good info.

I have been reading The Theft of America's Soul:  Blowing the Lid off the Lies that are Destroying our Country, by Phil Robertson, with my Hubby.  We finished reading it Feburary 19.  I learned a lot aout the aughtor; I had no idea he had a Masters degree in Education (or at least started the program), was a teacher, a couch, and owned a bar, besides his life before and after recieving the Gospel message of Christ.  The books message was solid and backed up, and totally inspiring!  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Finished reading the first book in the Prince Warriors trilogy, by Pricilla Shirer.  I had to read this one to myself, but the next two are available on audiobooks through by libarary app.  The  main characters are age 10 to 14 (if memory serves me well), but also involved in theis fantasy novel, where the characgters live in our world, but are trasported to another world, are parents (who we know) and a 20-something (who we don't know much about).  If you, or your tween/teen enjoys fantasy, learning the Armor of God and spiritual warfare in a unique way, I would defiintely reccomend.  There is a long on theprincewarriors.com that explains the "secrest" of the books; it's the Biblical references that are being tagught/shared thorugh the story.  The book was fast paced and interesteing.  My only complaint would be charcters flicking each other on the back of the head... but I know that's normal for some people.

MARCH

I finished reading Miss Match by Erynn Mangum.  Yes, I actually read it.  It was not an sudiobook.  And now I have to ask my Daughter to borrow the next book in the series.  If you like Romancitc Comedies, Hallmark movies, and happy endings... I predicet that you will like this book.  If you like coffee and chocolate, extra good vibes.  If you like Emma and Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, movie references and quotes (like from The Princess Bride)
