Flower Headbands inspired by Pinterest

A friend invited us over and the boys were going to play video games and the girls were going to craft.  We were both wanting to make fabric flowers that we found instructions for on Pinterest.  These are the two I made that night.  You can find the instructions HERE.

New Curtians

I FINALLY got new curtains made for both of my children!
These were Wyatt's curtains for a long time.  Wyatt thought Bob-the Builder was the greatest.
A co-worker, whose son only like Thomas the Train, gave us a "Bobby" duvet cover.
I bought material and made these Bob-the-Builder curtains.

When a local Walmart was being remodeled and getting rid of it's fabric department,
Wyatt picked out this Elvis Presley material for new curtains.
That was over a year ago. That Walmart even has a fabric department again (consumer demand).

Here's a close up of the new material.  Not surprising he picked Elvis, considering  who his mother is.

Here is poor discarded "Bobby".
Poor Ellie has not had curtains on her windows for SO long.

She has two windows in her room.

Here are her new curtains.  They are flowered.

You can see them a little better in this photo.  You can tell from the dates, that I got Ellie's done before Wyatt's.

Now, I just need to make tie backs for both of them.  Ellie hooks her around whatever is near to open her curtains.  One of these days...

Spinach Quesadillas

The first time I had spinach quesadillas was at a Garfield's restaurant when I was visiting my now husband at college.  I was a vegetarian for four years, three of them in college.  We passed by the restaurant at the mall and they were advertising spinach quesadillas.  I really wanted to try them, so we did.  Then I decided I could recreate them... and I did.

So, here's my original recipe:
Spinach Quesadillas
1 package chopped frozen spinach, thawed and drained
1 -2 cup bag of mozzerella cheese
1 package flour tortialla shells, or soft taco shells

Now:  I chop up a bunch of fresh spinach and add mozzerella till the mixture looks "right".

Also will want:  salsa and sour cream for dipping

Mix spinach and cheese in bowl.
Spread spinach and cheese mixture on tortilla shell.
Top with another toritiall shell.  Cook in quesadilla maker... if you have one, or fry in skillet on both sides.
Cut with a pizza cutter or kitchen scissors and serve with salsa and sour cream.

Our First Official Snow Day

I know this is old... especially since we are now in the season of Spring, but I don't recall every having an Official Snow Day before.  Since we had so little snow this year, our Superintendent (aka Hubby/Daddy) took the one snowy-enough for sledding day this year and called into to work and declared an Official Snow Day for the Academy of the Gospel (aka our homeschool).  We packed up our gear and headed to a dam near our church to do some family sledding.

Here's Ellie at the top of the hill.

Thomas with our "penguin", which was the best ride!

I do not see myself without glasses in a picture very often...
a bit strange to see myself without them, but they were fogging up really bad!

Wyatt on the trek back up the hill.  Looks like he's having fun!

The trek up the hill was quite good exercise!

First Field Trip of 2012

Although the weather is starting to feel like we could go swimming soon, the weather was quite cold for our first field trip in January 2012.  We went to the homeschool day at an indoor water park about an hour from home.  There were quite a few of the kids friends there... and TONS of people we didn't know.  We had a lot of fun.  Thomas did not come out with us though, so I just took a few pictures to commemorate our first time there, and our first time at an indoor water park.  The price was less than 1/2 of the normal price.  We will definitely try to go again and take Daddy with us on another homescool day.  The day was like a mini-vacation (and we don't really go on vacation, so this was a real treat).

Strawberry Shortcake and Blueberry Muffin Waffles

Ellie and I came up with some different toppings for regular old waffles.  They make great breakfast or snacks!

I call this one the Strawberry Shortcake Waffle.
Top with cream cheese and strawberry preserves.
Ellie came up with this one:  Blueberry Muffin Waffles.
Top with butter and then blueberry preserves.  Mmmm...

Orange Cow

This is a close relative of the Purple Cow.  My kids came up with this when their Daddy was going on his first ever liquid only fast.

Orange Cow

Ingredients:
1 can of frozen 100% orange juice concentrate
Saved can from OJ, filled with milk
ice

Directions:
Pour (or scrape) the frozen OJ into a blender.  Next use the can from the OJ, filled with milk, and pour the milk into the blender.  Fill the remaining space with ice cubes (about one tray's worth).  Then blend until slushy.

Serve immediately.

My How The Time Does Fly

I cannot believe how fast this year has gone by!  It's nearly April and I haven't written a blog post!  I have been thinking about plenty of them... actually started writing one, but got interrupted.

As a family, we kicked off the year with a cleanse.  Around the end of January, my sister and I started doing the Couch to 5K, a walking/jogging (or walking/running plan), which is designed to take nine weeks to get a person running or jogging for 3 miles (5K).  My sister & I have the same model treadmill, and we text each other each time we run and encourage one another.  We plan to celebrate when we complete the plan. I have some "before" pics that I can share once I have some "after" pics.  :)  My sister got sick, and I didn't want to finish before her (because I want to celebrate with her... plus it's just more fun doing the plan together...even if we're not really together), so we are behind.  I had completed week six, but we started back at week five, because we had not ran for weeks.

A homeschool mom at our church started a once a month homeschool family get together at our church.  I think I enjoy the time chatting with the other moms more than the kids enjoy the time with their friends.  One of those Mom's really encouraged me, unintentionally, about a goal of mine: to read the entire Bible in a year.  She told me that she has been working on that goal for 3 years.  Made me feel much better about my failed attempts.  I am doing lots better so far this year.  I'm using a plan I downloaded a while back that is printed out on bookmarks to check off the chapters each day.  I also found a Bible at the thrift store that fits in my purse, so I can do my reading wherever I may be each day, whenever time permits.

I discovered Pinterest... after hearing rave reviews from others.  I must admit, I have so much fun on there!  I admit to being addicted for a while.  Actually, I find it much more addicting than Facebook ever was.  For me, it's like designing my own magazine to enjoy each day.  I find recipes, clothing, hairstyles, inspirational quotes, Bible verses, home decorating, cleaning recipes, and even homeschool stuff... and I don't have to buy a bunch of magazines... AND I don't have to hunt for the information again, because it's all right there on my pin boards.

I have lots to share in the coming days!
